In early October 2012, it was reported that GameSpy had dropped support of several Activision titles (and subsequently other games). It now appears that sometime within the last few days, GameSpy has dropped support of Eidos Interactive-published games.

Eidos Interactive only published three PS2 games that used GameSpy; Crash 'N' Burn, Rogue Trooper and Urban Chaos: Riot Response.

The true loss of online play here is Crash 'N' Burn, as the other two titles feature a LAN mode for LAN tunneling through programs like XLink Kai and XBSlink.

UPDATE:

It has now been confirmed that online services for the following PS2 games have been discontinued by GameSpy:

Conflict: Global Terror (LAN supported)
Juiced (LAN supported)
WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006

There is no apparent pattern for Conflict: Global Terror (2K Games), Juiced (THQ) and WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006 (THQ) going offline.

For example, as of this post, both Hot Wheels: Stunt Track Challenge (THQ) and MX vs. ATV Untamed (THQ) are still online normally through GameSpy!

Hey freddy, Achieve enter Crash And Burn, performing the following method:

Use DNS1 from Principle, then log in to my account, I waited until he left "Failed to connect"

Then I went to enter the online Crash And Burn, with DNS2, acceded my account and I could play normally without any problem.

So the GameSpy Apocalypse continues. Can't say I'm shocked, but at least two of the games have a LAN mode to fall back on.

I'm guessing that most, if not all, GameSpy games will be offline come 2013.

My theory is that the contracts are running out for many of the games, and they are not renewing support for them.

The Activision one makes sense, since many of their PC based GameSpy games went down too, while EA and Lucasarts have a bunch of GameSpy hosted games on the PC. EA has the C&C games and older BFs.

Of course, this is all a theory, and tommorow GameSpy could discontinue service and next thing we know we'd be on OpenSpy/Bobz DNS.
