X-Link Kia and backward compatible PS3s
Is it possible to use a backward compatible PS3 to play in online matches with PS2 users?

Yes, it should work. I have been able to tunnel PS2 games over Xlink using my NTSC 60GB PS3 console. No idea if it will work with later PS3 consoles that only contain the Graphics Synthesizer chip.
